In my recent polish swap, I was sent Essie – Shine of the Times, a gorgeous flakie polish. I had been looking for a way to use it in a new way and ended up trying something I wouldn’t normally do: I added it as a topper over an already brilliant polish, Color Club – Eternal Beauty.
Color Club – Eternal Beauty is a stunning purple with a vibrant and very obvious holographic finish. I usually wear these types of polishes by themselves because they are so awesome and eye-catching plain. So, I started out this mani with one coat of Eternal Beauty – I love that the Color Club holos are one-coaters! They are one of my go-to’s when I want a quick mani for this reason.
This time, however, I applied one coat of Essie – Shine of the Times on top and WOW! (Totally wow’d in real life and got a side-eye from my husband) Really, though, this is ridiculous:
This is in muted, indoor lighting (my light tent) and you can still see the holo and the flakie! In low light, where the holo fades, the opalescence of the flakie takes over! Here is a macro shot:
Stunning, right?! I wore this on my nails for longer than I intended because every time I thought about doing something else and looked at my nails I got distracted by all the pretty colors and depth going on here.
I did eventually do some nail art though! I applied striping tape on all my nails and then used a makeup sponge to do a gradient with Color Club – Nail-robi and Little Miss Paris.

I like my final manicure, but it was the base that was the star of this show. I now need to flakie all of my holos!
