As mentioned in the first part of my review, part 2 is dedicated to 5 of the Finishing Touch toppers. I have five to show you today and two of them are brand new!
Three of these toppers are polishes I have swatched before, but decided I would give them another try. I passed on getting the Walgreens exclusive polish, Silver Crush, because it was basically a silver version of Twilight Twinkle and I don’t like that kind of flakie. I guess that makes me a flakie snob. Keep reading to find out what I think of all these polishes. I’ll start off with the re-promotes and then finish off with the two new toppers.
Twilight Twinkles is a mix of variously sized gold flakies and holographic bar glitter in a thick clear base. I’m not a big fan of this kind of flakie as they tend to not lay flat, which really bothers me. They tend to drag as you apply, so you end up needing to dab it around to get decent coverage. For best results, I recommend sponging it on so that your nails for better coverage.
For these swatches, I dabbed on one coat of Twilight Twinkles over Sinful Colors – Velvet Ribbon and topped it with a coat of Seche Vite.
Holiday Rebel is a mix of variously sized red, silver and green glitter in a clear base. I’ve had this bottle for 3 years and the red glitter has bled into the base leaving it pink. This is a really fun glitter and I really like it. You definitely get a Christmas vibe from the colors!
For these swatches, I painted on one coat of Holiday Rebel over Sinful Colors – Supernova and topped it with a coat of Seche Vite!
Gilded is a mix of red and gold micro glitter and gold shimmer in a clear base. Last time I swatched this, I had to put on 4-5 coats to get it opaque. Obviously it makes more sense (and I think it looks better) this way. That being said, I am still not a fan of this polish. It looks quite nice in the bottle, where the concentration of gold is stronger, but once applied, all that really pops is the red. I’ll have to try it over black some time to make a final determination about this one.
Shown above with 2 coats of Gilded over Sinful Colors – Supernova and topped with Seche Vite.
Flake Out is one of the new toppers available this holiday season and is made up of pearly blue shimmer, light blue matte hex glitters and large holographic snowflakes. Just look at this bottle! It is really a pretty polish – an absolute must if you or your kids are Frozen fans. The glitter (especially the snowflakes) are sparse, so I found the best way to apply was to use a sponge. I had to go fishing for every snowflake, they were pretty elusive.
I applied 1 sponged on coat of Flake Out over Sinful Colors – Purple Heart and topped with Seche Vite.
Star Studded is made up of silver star glitter, silver and gold hex glitters in various sizes and a base loaded with bronze shimmer. This is another of the new toppers available this year. This looks absolutely amazing in the bottle and I love it on my nails! This is really great polish for year-round use, so I consider this one a must have. The darker the color you layer it over, the more impressive it looks!
For my swatches, I brushed on one coat of Star Studded over Sinful Colors – Pine Away – I did have to fish for the stars, but they aren’t too hard to find. Although I topped these with a coat of Seche Vite, some of the stars still had their corners sticking out.
My favorite of these, by far, is Star Studded. If you like glitters, this is a must have! Of the older toppers, Holiday Rebel is still my favorite because it is just a perfect Christmas glitter. I’m pretty happy overall with the new polishes in this collection. Considering that these all retail for $1.99, it is pretty impressive what Sinful Colors can pull off! Let me know which ones you like!
