I’d been keeping a lookout for the new Sinful Colors Halloween offerings for a couple of weeks and finally found these at a local Walgreens. As far as I know, these are all new polishes (with the exception of Glow In the Dark, which they re-release ever year). Keep reading to see all my swatches and review for these fun Halloween offerings!
First off, I want to apologize for the state of my cuticles! I swatched all of these over the course of last week while I was helping my Grandpa with a move and it mutilated my poor cuticles. You’ll noticed they look pretty oily – I figured that was better than dry and flaky!
I found four new releases this year – there may be more, but this is what was in the Halloween display at the store. I already owned Glow In the Dark – it obviously isn’t new, but I wanted to add it in for the sake of comparison. I’ll start out with the non-glow polishes:
Devil’s Stare

Devil’s Stare is a bright red jelly loaded with tiny opalescent glitters as well as larger opal flakies. I used three coats to achieve the opacity I wanted – unfortunately, the polish itself is really thick and it was just too much polish on my nails once I had added topcoat. If I wore this again, I would probably use an undie. I think it would look great over black or as a topper over a similarly-toned red creme.

Stone Cold

Stone Cold is a cool, blue-toned gray jelly loaded with silvery shimmer, and small matte, black glitter. I really like this one! I used three thin coats to get full opacity. the jelly for this one was thin and easy to work with and didn’t leave me feeling like I had too much polish on. This does dry with a bit of a texture from the glitter, so you’ll want topcoat if you want a smooth finish.

Now on to the glow in the dark polishes. I had the best success with the glow on these polishes when I used them over white – so all of the swatches have a white undie.
Skele-bration

Skele-bration feels mis-named to me. I feel like it should be “Wicked Brew” or poison-something or other – because that is the vibe that this lime-green polish gives, accented with the cute skull and cross-bone glitter. Shown in my swatches are three coats over a white base. The formula on this is easy to work with and goes on smooth – until you want some glitter. Be prepared to don some waders when applying this one, because you’re going to be doing some fishing. I sat this upside down for 24 hours prior to using and still struggled to fish out these sparse glitters.

Go Batty

This is another mis-named polish. I don’t have any suggestions, but since this doesn’t have bat-shaped glitters, it is simply wrong. WRONG!
Anyway, as you can see this is a blue toned polish with holographic moons. I used three coats to achieve the above opacity – once again, fishing for glitters is a necessity, but it wasn’t quite the chore that it was with Skele-bration.

Glow In The Dark

Glow In the Dark is a simple, transparent coat you can place on top of anything – but as mentioned before, I had the best results over white – I added some black dots so you’ll be able to see how it works over darker polish. Unfortunately, one or two coats of this polish doesn’t seem to be enough concentration to get a good glow. I did four coats to get the glow shown in the image below – it’s crazy when you see how glowy the bottle is in comparison. I imagine 6 -8 coats could get pretty brilliant but that is a bit much for me. Though transparent, this does add a yellow cast to the undie, so my stark white polish became more of an antique white.

Of the three glow in the dark polishes, Skel-bration seemed to have the weakest glow – Go Batty had a much stronger glow and I did 3 coats of each. Glow in the Dark started getting good after 4 coats and the glow from it seemed to last considerably longer than the other two.
Overall, I think this is a cute collection this year, but I found Devil’s Stare to be too thick to wear on its’ own and Skele-bration and Go Batty required way too much fishing for the glitters. Stone Cold is far and away my favorite of the bunch and Glow in the Dark is decent for an inexpensive glow. Even with the critiques I have about the releases this year, I still love the collection overall and think they are pretty on-point for a Halloween release. Let me know which is your favorite!
I like stone cold. The rest…. Meh.
I love seeing new season collections, these look super pretty x
I’m digging Stone Cold!
Stone Cold is my favorite! You did great capturing the GITD properties of these. 🙂
I kind of really love how all of these look! I’d live to see Devils Snare over black!
Stone Cold is awesome!
I like Devil’s Stare, even if it’s thick.
I have Go Batty (I agree, not the right name at all) and Skele-bration but I haven’t used them yet. Great swatches and you captured the glow so well!
How fun that they are trying odd shaped glitters!
Beautiful swatches and great review Jen! I need to go find these!
I loved stone cold
The Devil’s Stare is awesome! Actually, I love them all truth be told. But I’m going to hunt that one down!
