Peacock Advanced Stamping featuring Sinful Colors – Sky Tree

Straight talk time – I am not a fan of doing advanced stamping, even though I think the results can look really phenomenal. My nails curve a lot, so getting a decal to lay flat is a herculean effort that often ends in the stamp looking so folded and wrinkled that it is hideous. That being said, I needed some inspiration so I checked out the @pushyourmani prompt and saw that it was decals so I decided to give it a try.

I started out this project with 2 coats of Sinful Colors – Sky Tree. This is one of their new polishes from the Tokyo Lights collection. I’m a fan of teal polishes in general and when I saw this one I had to have it. The formula is like a thick crelly with aqua shimmer. Gorgeous!

With my color choice made and on my nails, I decided on using a peacock inspired stamp from Bundle Monster on plate BM-XL08. I grabbed a couple of stampers and used Essie – Good as Gold to stamp the images. I topcoated them on the stampers with Seche Vite and gave it time to dry.

I filled in the feathers using a dotting tool and Picture Polish – Peacock (how could I not!?), Butter London – Henley Regatta and Butter London – Lovely Jubbly. I left them to dry for about 15 minutes and then peeled them off the stamper, carefully, with a pair of tweezers.

Then I applied the first to my nail and to my immense shock, I actually got it to look fairly smooth!

It was awesome!

Then, I messed up the next 4 decals I made and wanted to give up on the whole thing. I repainted and finally got a second application to look decent! While I think it would have looked cool to have all my nails done with the stamp, I was beyond the patience to continue lol!

Overall, I am pleased with the look. However, that is tempered by the amount of frustration I went through to make it happen. I actually felt cursed by this mani when it came time to remove it, because Sky Tree is a stain-monster. I’m not exactly surprised because I have a lot of teals and went into it prepared with double base coat – but some of my nails still stained and the staining on my cuticles and skin was terrible. Sky Tree, though lovely, will be going into my destash.
