This week for #mommysmanimonday we took orders from another member. I got my orders from @amyjeannenails who assigned me to do a glitter gradient. Other than that, I had no specific requirements so I decided to go with black and red since Nail It! magazine was looking for submissions. I absolutely adore the result!
I’ve only ever done one glitter gradient before, almost a year and a half ago when I first started getting into nail art. The result wasn’t great (since I was such a newbie) and I just never really felt the urge to do another, even though I have seen a bunch of really brilliant designs utilizing the technique.
I started with a single coat of Sinful Colors Black on Black. Once it was dry, I used a non-latex sponge to sponge on China Glaze – Ruby Pumps just to the ends of my nails. I did this so that I didn’t have to apply a billion layers of my chunky glitter. Ruby Pumps is fairly opaque and a couple of passes sponged on gave me a gradient to build upon. I used Funky Fingers – Red Ryder as my chunky glitter. It is made up of small and large metallic red hex glitters, I dabbed some on the tip and sparingly down toward my cuticle, being careful not to get too much glitter on my nails. I topped the mani with a coat of Seche Vite to smooth it out.

Originally I wasn’t planning on matting this mani, but I was having a terrible time getting good pictures. I put on one coat of Fresh Paint – Matte Topcoat and voila! I am so glad for the matte!

Here is a macro shot. I took this before I applied the matte top coat.

POLISHES:
- Essie – Grow Stronger Base Coat
- Sinful Colors – Black on Black
- China Glaze – Ruby Pumps
- Funky Fingers – Red Ryder
- Seche Vite – Dry Fast Top Coat
- Fresh Paint – Matte Topcoat
