Ah zombies! One of my favorite things! How fortuitous (also) that this challenge landed on a Sunday, which just happens to be a Walking Dead night. Perfect! I’ve seen a lot of different interpretations, like amazing torn-up zombie fingernails which I am in awe of, but I chose to make my nails a gnarly zombie colored tone and have a zombie caricature on one of my nails.
I knew I wanted a really grungy base under these, so I started out with a dark gray-leaning green called Jungle Trail by Sinful Colors. I applied one thin coat and allowed it to dry completely. Next, I took a flat kitchen sponge and cut a strip of it off, wet it down and then rang all the water off before cutting it into 6 more pieces. This sponge had a nice textured side that was perfect for my needs! I then proceeded to lightly sponge on a variety of greens (listed in the polishes below) and finally topped it off with a light gray.
For the slashes, I used a thin slash marks in a dark oxblood red color. I added some crustiness to them with a dark glittery red-brown Zoya polis (Kalista) and finally followed that up with some Zoya Sooki to look like there was fresh blood on the slashes. For the blood dripping nail I used a narrow striping brush and traced out the shape I wanted with the oxblood color then filled it in with Sooki.
The zombie face is a Cici & Sisi stamp. You may recognize it if you read my Cici & Sisi Set 4 review, but if not, here is the stamp in question:
I dabbed a bit of white around the eyes, dark oxblood around the drippy eye and black over the rest before scraping. This gave the eye area a nice smeary look!
I love how these turned out. My favorite thing is the putrid skin backdrop. The mesh of grays and greens gives it a nice and gruesome effect!

Whew, that was a lot of colors! I tried to put them into the order which I used them. For example, the sponging started with the Jungle Gray and ended with the Cool Gray. For my next manicure, I will be revisiting the Spider theme for #bhbspooktober!
