Month of Untrieds: Spa Ritual – Starry Night

This was one of those manicures that just kind of came together despite problems in execution. I used several newbies to my stash for this mani, but the star was definitely the base color, Spa Ritual – Starry Night. I found this beauty on clearance at Ulta and snatched it. I may or may not have been looked at funny by other patrons.

I put this polish on the day after I got it. I had actually been really interested in it ever since I saw swatches in early fall. It’s a bronzy-brown with a strong gold shimmer – a totally “me” color. Great formula on this one and two coats for full opacity.

I almost didn’t add any art, but I happened to also get in a couple of stamping plates I ordered on Black Friday (or maybe Cyber Monday? I forget) from Born Pretty Store and I really wanted to try them out.

My original plan was to just do the stamping (hooray for the look of quatrefoil without having to dot) – however, I was using Essie – Good as Gold to stamp with and it dries pretty fast. When you combine that with such a delicate pattern and the polish was drying faster than I could stamp with and I ended up with some not-so-pretty gaps where the stamp didn’t stick to my nail well. I wasn’t ready to call it a fail yet, so I decided to add some roses.

I used my narrow striping brush and a variety of my new pink (and green) Barielle polishes to do the roses. I’m definitely getting better at them, which is exciting, because I love how they look.

POLISHES:

  • Sally Hansen Nail Nutrition – Green Tea + Bamboo Strength
  • Spa Ritual – Starry Night
  • Essie – Good as Gold
  • Various Barielle Green and Pink polishes
  • Seche Vite – Dry Fast Top Coat
  • BP-L 003

I’m so pleased with how these turned out – even more so because it was almost a fail. Extra nail art to the rescue!
