Some of the ladies on my nail thread claim I can make ugly colors look good and also have an aversion for the color Chartreuse. I set out to see if they were right and when I spotted Butter London – Jaded Jack at Marshall’s for $5, I couldn’t resist.
I have to admit upfront that while I usually love all greens, this is not a color I am typically drawn to. It’s a bit in your face and not really my style, but I wanted to see what I could do with it.
My original plan was to do a dark stripe down the center and line it with studs, like this sample nail I did:

I didn’t take into consideration how curvy my nails are and I couldn’t get my straight vinyls to work right, I kept having a wide spot in the center of my nails. After a bit of thought, I got out my chevron vinyls instead and created this look:

I started out by painting 3 coats of Butter London – Jaded Jack on all of my nails. I’m not a fan of the formula on this polish. It has a matte finish and you have to work quite fast and carefully in application or you end up with balding. With a perfect application, 2 coats would be plenty. My imperfect self needed one more coat to hide a few bald spots.
I added a coat of Seche Vite to all nails and waited for it to dry completely. I applied the chevron decals to my middle and ring finger nails about halfway down the nail, trying to be very careful that the center ridge of the decal sat on the middle of my nail. I filled in the bottom portion of each nail with Sinful Colors – Black on Black (it’s a very opaque color, so one coat was plenty for perfect coverage).
I applied one more coat of Seche Vite to my middle and ring finger and immediately used a pair of tweezers to place the studs before the top coat had dried, which gave me a chance to make adjustments in placement.

- Butter London – Jaded Jack
- Sinful Colors – Black on Black
- Seche Vite – Dry Fast Top Coat
Conclusion? I don’t like this green with my skin tone. In real life, it made me look jaundiced – but I think I did the color justice with this stark, geometric mani. I actually think it’s not a terrible color for a bright accent, but it isn’t a color I would want to wear on the regular, even during the summer.
