Month of Untrieds: Experiments with Water Marble

I am a huge fan of water marble manicures, but I don’t attempt the technique very often. Most of the time, I get an idea in my head only to find out the polishes I want to use suck for marbling. This manicure almost ended the same way.

At Big Lots, I found a bottle of Sephora by OPI polish called Looks Like Rain Dear. It’s a clear base with gold micro glitter and tiny holographic hex glitters. The base is a bit more fluid than most glitter bases, so I thought it might work well for water marble.

I started out with 2 coats of Seche – Conquer the World on all of my fingers. I really like this polish, but I have the sadz because in the bottle, there is an obvious gold shimmer, but it is almost undetectable when worn – but I am a real sucker for this kind of Tiffany Blue color, so I can live without the shimmer!

For the marble, I chose Nicole by OPI – Candid Cameron, OPI – My Vampire is Buff and Sephora by OPI – Looks Like Rain, Dear. This marble almost didn’t happen because unfortunately, my lovely gold glitter started drying too fast and I could only swirl right in the middle of my bowl and couldn’t get as complex with the design as I wanted.

I ended up painting one coat of the glitter on my pinky as well and after some top coat, called this mani done.

POLISHES:

  • ORLY – Nailtrition
  • Seche – Conquer the World
  • Nicole by OPI – Conquer the World
  • OPI – My Vampire is Buff
  • Sephora by OPI – Looks Like Rain, Dear
  • Seche Vite – Dry Fast Top Coat

Although the marble wasn’t as successful as I would have have liked, I still really like the end result. It reminds me of rippling water! I will probably revisit this mani idea again in the future!
