I recently joined a Mommy mani group called Mommys Mani Monday. This group has biweekly themes to help inspire us to create nail art! I am really excited to be a part of this group and had my first opportunity to participate this past Monday!
The theme for this manicure was Inspired by Music. I didn’t have much time to think on the prompt, so I went with a song that I personally find very inspiring called “You are the New Day” by the a cappella group The King’s Singers. My nails are a representation of the album cover the song was originally released under. Below is a view of the album cover:
So, my nails are still stubby from my recent cut down, but I still attempted to cram as much imagery from the album onto them as possible! I knew that I wanted to include a butterfly in the mani, but wasn’t sure I was up to the task of freehanding it, so I did some advanced stamping to create a tiny butterfly decal. I used Cici & Sisi – 03 and picked up a black stamped butterfly on my stamper. I then colored it in with a bit of orange polish and let it dry for about 1 minute. I covered just the butterfly with a coat of Seche Vite and then set the stamper aside for later use!
I started out the mani by painting my pointer finger in a light blue (Color Club – In De-Nile) and the others with one coat of OPI – My Vampire is Buff. On the Buff nails, I then applied a light gradient of My Vampire is Buff and OPI – Don’t Talk Bach to Me. On My pointer fingers, I used a sponge to dab on some white to try to reflect the clouds.
From there, my polish usage is all over the place color wise. There is really a ton of color here! I used a dotting tool to dot on the greens in the background and painted the tree on my pinky finger. I used Color Club – Twiggy to create some foreground foliage and then used a fine liner brush to outline some of the details. I then painted the flowers on top of that foliage.
The applied a thin coat of Seche Vite to my pointer finger and allowed it to dry until it was just a bit tacky. I then rolled my stamp butterfly decal onto my finger. When all was said and done, I felt the colors were a bit brighter than I wanted, so I did one coat of OPI – Don’t Touch My Tutu on top to wash out the color a bit. I applied a coat of Seche Vite on top to help with drying and finally added a coat of NYC – Matte Me Crazy.
These are not all of the polishes, but these are the ones I used the most of!
- Essie – Grow Stronger Base Coat
- OPI – My Vampire is Buff
- OPI – Don’t Talk Bach to Me
- Color Club – In De-Nile
- Funky Fingers – Gesso
- Color Club – Twiggy
- Color Club – New Bohemian
- ORLY – Floaties
- Barielle – Nostalgia
- Seche Vite – Dry Fast Top Coat
- NYC – Matte Me Crazy To Coat
This definitely would have been easier on longer nails, just so I would have a larger palette to work with, but I am quite proud of all the detail I was able to squeeze onto these little nubs!
