Nail vinyls and stickers have become one of the major tools of the trade for doing manis. I’ve tried vinyls from quite a few brands and always enjoy using them, so I was excited to get to review some really fun mermaid scale stickers from Born Pretty Store.
Unlike vinyls, these are actually punched mylar stickers (holographic mylar no less!), they are thinner than vinyl and come in a sheet of 12.

Each sticker is a very generous size. They were more than enough to cover my medium length nails. The material, as I mentioned, is thin and I found it to be very flexible which is a huge plus when using them on nails with and overactive c curve (like mine!)

The stickers are on a clear plastic backing and to use them you just cut them off of the sheet and place them on your nails. For my nail art, I painted a base of Color Club – Nail-robiΒ on all of my nails and put on a topcoat. I always topcoat my base when using vinyls to ensure that I don’t have any issues with the adhesive pulling off my base color, because that makes me really sad. And angry.
I gave my base about 20 minutes to dry and then placed the stickers on my nails. To get them to curve nicely along my nails I used a pair of scissors and snipped the sides and they laid down very flat and neatly. Using a non-latex sponge, I created a gradient using KBShimmer – Pigment of my Imagination, ILNP – Sirene and China Glaze – Deviantly Daring. It took about two passes to get the opacity I wanted. I quickly removed the stickers and they came off very cleanly. I was really pleased with the level of detail and how clean the lines were.

I added a coat of Seche Vite to all my nails to seal in the design.

I’m really pleased with these stickers. I love how flexible the material was. I think that added to how clean the lines are. I’m probably going to pick up more of these in my next order. π

I just got some of these myself, can’t wait to play with them. Love what you did! π
Thank you!
I need to get some of these stencils!
You totally do, I would love to see what kind of designs you would come up with π
I’ve been wondering how these compare to the vinyls in the indie market, so I am glad to see a review!
So beautiful, you did an absolutely stunning job with these!
Great mani! I may have to give these a try soon.
I love this! It’s gorgeous!
Beautiful, I have received my vinyls but too scared to use them lol x
These are nice! I avoid vinyls mostly because I hate how harsh the lines are. These look great.
I love this mani!
