Marsala Madness – Experiments in Frankenpolish

Pantone announced this years color of the year: Marsala. It’s a very earthy orangeish-reddish-brownish (rustish) color and personally, I love it. As soon as I saw the color, I knew I wanted polish just like it! I looked around a little bit, but didn’t see anything quite right so I decided to make my own using polishes currently sitting in my destash box!

More specifically, I sacrificed a good portion of my Sinful Colors – Nirvana (recently replaced it with Barielle – In Good Taste) and some Sinful Shine – Devious, with a bit of white and a little bit of some shimmery polish I can’t even remember. The end result wasn’t quite what I had hoped (it ended up being way too reddish), but I still really liked the color I came up with! I don’t have a full swatch of it, but I did use it in a Christmas mani:

I paired it with OPI – My Vampire is Buff, Don’t Talk Bach to Me and Love.Angel.Music.Baby (just in case you weren’t sick of seeing me wear those colors together!) I totally love this color combination!

Luckily for me, brands are already putting out polishes inspired by Marsala! KBShimmer has released one called “Men are from Mars-ala” ¬†which is a gorgeous holographic. I think I really, really need this polish.

I can’t wait to see how other polish makers are inspired by the color! Meanwhile, back at my mani-cave (which is what I call my desk in our living room /sad) I am busy eyeing the rest of my destash box and wondering what else I can concoct.
