Mani Madness – Halloween Nail Design Round-up #1

That is correct, this is round up 1 of probably 2-3 because I plan on continuing to do a ton of Halloween and fall-themed nail designs for October. I’m following three different challenges and while I probably will not get all of those prompts done, it gives me a lot of options to choose from.

Stamped Bat Gradient Nails

To start out the round-up, I have these bat-stamped gradient nails. These were super easy to do! I started with a base of Sally Hansen – Green With Envy. I used a non-latex makeup sponge and created the gradient on my nails using Green With Envy and Sinful Colors – Black on Black. It took three passes to get the gradient pictured above. I topped the gradient with a coat of Seche Vite and when it was dry, I stamped on my bats with Funky Fingers – Dark Knight using the Cici & Sisi Special Edition Halloween plate from 2014. One last coat of topcoat was added to seal everything in.

Headstone Nails
Headstone Nails

This second design started off with 2 coats of Sinful Colors – Stone Cold. I was actually inspired to do these nails because of the name of this polish! I swatched this a few posts back, so check out the link to see it without any art on it. Once my base was dry, I used Sinful Colors – Black on Black and my fine detail brush to create the lines around the outer left-hand edge of my nails. I left it open and rough because I thought that gave it a more weathered look. I also used the detail brush to paint on cracks and little details for each headstone (including my name, eeek!) I went over those with a putty color so that it looked a bit beveled. I topped these with a coat of Seche Vite, and once dry, added a coat of NYC – Matte Me Crazy.

Fall Dotticure featuring OPI - It's a Piazza Cake
Fall Dotticure featuring OPI – It’s a Piazza Cake

This dotticure design was done for my Mommy Mani Monday group. Our prompt for the week was to re-visit and older prompt, so I chose dotticure and went with fall colors. I was dying to do this because I had recently picked up OPI – It’s a Piazza Cake and thought that the gorgeous burnt orange would make a perfect base.

I painted on two coats of It’s a Piazza Cake and allowed it to dry. I then used OPI – Don’t Talk Bach To Me, Zoya – Spencer and a couple of frankenpolishes in yellow and purple to create my dots. Sadly, due to my lighting, it is really hard to tell a difference between my yellow and the green of Don’t Talk Bach To Me, but I still loved how these came out. I topped them with a coat of Seche Vite and once that was dry added a coat of NYC – Matte Me Crazy.

Creepy Monster Mani
Creepy Monster Mani

This mani started out with one coat of the rather opaque Zoya – Claudine. I used a sponge to randomly sponge on Sinful Colors – Black on Black and Jungle Trail to give my nails a mottled appearance. I used my fine detail brush and a dotting tool to create the monster design. I think he looks kind of like the creature from the black lagoon (except for not green lol) – I didn’t really know where I was going with it so I just made it up as I went along. I used my detail brush and Zoya – Sooki to create the splatter details. I topped everything with Seche Vite and once it was dry added a coat of NYC – Matte Me Crazy.

Quatrefoil Pirate? Nails
Quatrefoil Pirate? Nails

This is one of those designs where I started with no clear vision and just kept adding in different elements. The only thing I knew for sure was that I, at some point, wanted to add in some kind of bones, because that was the actual challenge prompt.

I started off this mani with two coats of Wet n Wild Fergie – Ferguson Crest Syrah. This is an amazing duochrome, vampy, glittery polish! I absolutely adore it! I topped it with a coat of Chirality – Ectoplasm so that it would have a holographic sheen. Then, because you can never have enough holo, I stamped a quatrefoil pattern on using M Polish – To Have and To Holo using BP-L 003.

I realized that I still didn’t have any bones, so I added a small skull & crossbones stamp to my middle finger nail using Funky Fingers – Gesso and Cici & Sisi 04. Everything got topped with a coat of Seche Vite so it would be nice and shiny!

I make no qualms about not being a fan of textured polishes (it’s a sensory thing), but sometimes I make an exception! I started off this mani by painting on 3 coats of Zoya – Carter on my index and middle nails. Using a non-latex makeup sponge, I created a gradient over my ring and pinkie nails using Carter, OPI – Love.Angel.Music.Baby and Sally Hansen – Sun Sheen. It took 3 passes to achieve the opacity shown above. I added a coat of Seche Vite to help in the drying process.

Once the nails were dry, I stamped the gradient nails with Funky Fingers – Dark Knight and BP-L 006. I added one more coat of Seche Vite to all of my nails to both seal in the stamp as well as give Carter a smoother surface.

There we have it! I’ve tried to do a large variety of styles and designs – so far I think my absolute favorite is the chevron-stamped gradient mani. It was so, so sparkly in real life and my pictures just did not do it justice. Please let me know which design you liked best! I’ll have another round-up next week!
