I’m still doing some submission manis for Nail It and obviously, I cannot resist the holographic prompt. I wanted to try doing something a bit out of the ordinary, so this mani features a lot of layering – with holo being the main attraction.
I started off this mani with one coat of Color Club – Nail-robi on all of my nails. I used this polish because it is opaque in one coat, which makes it a perfect undie for KBShimmer – Pigment of My Imagination (which I have swatched before) – this is a gorgeous duochrome polish with amazing depth! It’s a bit hard to capture the shift, but in real life, it is pretty spectacular. I applied one coat of Pigment and then topped it with a coat of my favorite holographic top coat, Chirality – Ectoplasm.
I put a coat of Seche Vite on top to speed up the drying time. Once that was completely dry, I stamped on top with Sinful Colors – Black on Black using Cici & Sisi 03. Then, to really punch home the holographic bling, I stamped with L’Oreal – Masked Affair using Bundle Monster plate BM-XL05. I applied one more coat of Seche Vite to finish off the mani.
Here is a macro shot for more detail:
Finally, one more shot that better shows off the lovely color shift in less direct lighting:
- Essie – Grow Stronger Base Coat
- Color Club – Nail-robi
- KBShimmer – Pigment of My Imagination
- Chirality – Ectoplasm
- Sinful Colors – Black on Black
- L’Oreal – Masked Affair
- Seche Vite – Dry Fast Top Coat
- Cici & Sisi 03
So, there were quite a few layers to this manicure, but I love how it turned out! My pictures don’t do Ectoplasm enough justice, because it is truly a perfect holo topper, because it is not greying at all and allows the colors underneath to shine through beautifully. I was also pleasantly surprised with how well Masked Affair stamped. I don’t think it would work over lighter colors very well, but over dark colors it shows up really well and picked up very nicely!
