If you have followed my blog for any length of time, you are sure to notice that I am mad for polkadots. I use them all the time in my everyday manicures because they are quick to do and always look fun. Sometimes it is good to add in a bit of a twist for fun!
Before I get into the design, I just want to take a minute to talk about my base color. I used Sinful Colors – Ablaze. I don’t think this color is part of their core line, but I recently found it on an endcap display in Walgreens and loved the color. When I got home and swatched it on a stick, I was downright giddy to find the formula was a lusciously smooth jelly/crelly. The color is a deep watermelon pink that just looks juicy on the nail.
This may be the best Sinful Colors polish I have ever used. The formula is an absolute dream to apply. It goes on ultra thin, so even though you do need 3 coats for full opacity, it felt like one coat of creme polish on the nail. It was thin, but easy to manage and didn’t pool in my cuticles. The finish is fairly shiny without topcoat and with such thin coats, it was dry pretty quickly. I feel like I need to rush out and buy 2-3 more bottles of this for backups.
Sorry, I was having a moment. Allow me some time to regain my composure!
Now then! I applied 3 coats of Ablaze and then created my polka dot pattern. To create my dots, I used Sinful Colors – Cream Pink, a similarly toned (but lighter) pink with gold shimmer. I applied a coat of Seche Vite over the top.
For the stripes (which I have obviously not yet mastered) I used a striping brush and Sinful Colors – Black on Black. I started at the tip and drew the brush about 2/3 of the way across and then made each subsequent line slightly shorter while trying to keep the line width as well as the spacing consistent: More practice needed, for sure!
- Essie – Grow Stronger Base Coat
- Sinful Colors – Ablaze
- Sinful Colors – Cream Pink
- Sinful Colors – Black on Black
- Seche Vite – Dry Fast Top Coat
Although I definitely need more practice with creating my lines, I’m quite pleased with this design. The black lines add a lot of visual interest to an otherwise simple manicure.
