I knew right from the start that I wanted to do a bloody splatter mani for this one, but the more I thought about it, the more another idea started to present. Instead of doing a splatter over white or black, I decided to splatter a finished mani. What better than something completely opposite – like a Barbie pink manicure?
To start out, I put on a base of Sally Hansen – Bubblegum Pink. I added a glitter accent, white and pink dots and painted on some roses. Honestly, I was quite pleased with the mani and any other time I would have been really proud of myself over it. Here is where I insert a Halloween-appropriate track of maniacal laughter (but I digress). Here is a before shot of the manicure before I bloodied it. Please pardon the crappy lighting and lack of cleanup:
See? Perfectly good manicure! Oh well, with my idea firmly in place, I couldn’t deter myself – but I did feel a little bit guilty. To make the splatters, I used Sinful Shine – Devious, which is a gorgeous deep red, and picked some up on the end of a short straw and blew it out onto my nails. I did tape up my fingers first to reduce the amount of cleanup I had to do. Splattering is messy business.
The end result, as you can see, is a gloriously bloodied manicure! I love Halloween!
