#BHBSpooktober Batty Full Moon Gradient

The prompt for Day 20 was Full Moon/Bats and yes, another gradient lol (I’ve been doing a lot of gradients recently) I really wanted to do a different, sinister take on this theme and decided to go with a much different color scheme. Black and red always remind me of vampires and since I already knew that I wanted to use a moon and bat stamp for this, the colors, with a bit of orange at the top, were just what I wanted to create an ominous moon-lit vampire night.

For the gradient, I wanted it to look a bit sinister and to look as if the bright moon was lighting the night sky, so went with an orange to black gradient – I love how subtle it turned out using four colors.

The moon is a bit more yellow and less orange than I would have liked, but I didn’t have quite the color I wanted, so I had to hand-mix this using some Sally Hansen Mellow Yellow and White On. I hand-painted the outline onto my nail with a thin striping brush and then filled it in. Once this was dry I stamped the bats and dotted my ring finger.

  • Essie – Grow Stronger Base Coat
  • Nicole by OPI – Fairy Fairy Quite Contrary
  • Zoya – Sooki
  • OPI – I Sing in Color
  • Sinful Colors – Black on Black
  • Seche Vite – Dry Fast Top Coat

Overall I am quite pleased with these nails and proud of myself for stepping outside of my mental block about colors lately. I’ve been really making an effort to do colors on my challenge nails that I don’t often wear!
